“The Prince’s Watercourse” is an artificial watercourse created by Prince Ferdinand of Austria to supply the lake and fountains of the Giardini Reali. A notable variety of flora and fauna has developed around this watercourse.
After forming the Lake of the Gardens, the Waterfall and the pool at the base of the Belvedere, the watercourse continues in the meadow behind the Villa, where it expands in a broad riverbed with a gravelly bottom. It follows a twisting route till it leaves the boundaries of the Giardini Reali. It then supplies the Lake of the Valle dei Sospiri, and then joins the Roggia della Pelucca.
