Eugène de Beauharnais

The son of Viscount Alexandre de Beauharnais and Joséphine Tascher de la Pagerie, Eugène de Beauharnais was adopted by Napoleon Bonaparte, who married Joséphine, a widow since her husband Alexandre was guillotined after the advent of the French National Convention. Eugène became aide-de-camp of Napoleon and distinguished himself in the Egyptian and Italian campaigns. On 7th June 1805, on the constitution of the Kingdom of Italy, he was named Viceroy.
